A Chow Chow can scratch or bite a wound, which can lead to a secondary skin infection. Your vet will take a biopsy to determine if pemphigus foliaceus is the culprit. If so, treatment includes treatment with immunosuppressive drugs. In some Chow Chows, pemphigus foliaceus comes and goes, while in others the condition is chronic.

Cows are prone to hypothyroidism or insufficient production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. Symptoms include hair loss, frequent skin and ear infections, and dry, shiny fur.
