Room tells the poignant story of Jack, a five-year-old boy who has spent his entire life in a small, confined space known simply as “Room.” The room is actually a soundproof shed where Jack and his mother, Ma, have been held captive by a kidnapper for seven years. For Jack, Room is his entire universe; he believes everything within its walls is all that exists. His understanding of the world is limited to the confines of this single room, where Ma has created a small, nurturing environment to shield him from the harsh reality of their situation.
Ma, however, has been preparing Jack for the day when she would reveal the truth about the outside world. As Jack grows older, she knows that he must be told that there is a life beyond the room.
